Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is a subspeciality of radiology which focuses on imagining a large variety of disorders by using radioactive materials, called radiopharmaceuticals, to diagnose and treat disease. This unique area of radiology helps make it easier to evaluate both the structure and functionality of the body.
Nuclear medicine radiologists, also called nuclear radiologists, are physicians who employ such techniques such as scintigraphy, to produce images of the body’s organs or to visualize certain diseases. They also use radiopharmaceuticals to treat conditions such as hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, or painful bone metastases.
